Located on the waterfront of Colaba in South Mumbai, Gateway of India is Mumbai's most iconic
monument. This huge work of architecture was constructed in 1924 to commemorate the visit of
King George V and Queen Mary to the city. This
place is also remembered for the incident in which the last of the British troops departed,
marking the end of British rule in India in 1947.
